Who's Mai Takemura?

---

Mai Takemura is a boundary-pushing techno and hard techno DJ/producer from Japan. Originally based in Tokyo, she made her first impact behind the decks of the city's underground scene before relocating to Hong Kong in 2010, where she honed her sound both as a DJ and a producer.

Her debut EP dropped in 2013 via Modu Records (Greece), marking the start of a steady output of releases that have spanned Tech House, Hard Techno, and experimental edges of club music. Along the way, she has contributed remixes for fellow producers and curated exclusive DJ mixes, including for Greece's Innervision Radio 3rd Anniversary.

Back in Japan since 2019, Mai Takemura continues to expand her sonic palette, releasing a series of well-received EPs through labels such as Right Music Records (Hungary), while building a reputation for fierce, forward-driving sets across Asia’s techno circuit.

For this Skincare remix contest, you’re asked to delve into Melodic Techno, Techno, and Minimal — three worlds defined by subtlety and evolution:

• Melodic Techno: weave emotive chord progressions and evolving arpeggios. Think of gradually shifting atmospheres while maintaining a steady backbone.
• Techno: go punchy and rhythmic. Deep kicks, crisp hats, and that hypnotic, relentless pulse—it drives the energy.
• Minimal: embrace restraint. Let tiny details speak volumes. Between every loop, leave space for listener anticipation.

Mai’s originals on Right Music often balance those qualities: emotional melodies layered over solid techno grooves, all with clean, minimal textures.

Your task: Don’t just remix Skincare—reimagine its essence. Analyze its core elements (chords, timbres, groove), then select one of these three vocabularies to express it anew. Preserve the heart, then transform the skin to suit the dance floor.

Your remix should fall within the following styles: Melodic Techno, Techno, or Minimal.
Please respect the sonic character of these genres when reworking Skincare.

Once the contest results are announced, you are allowed to share a short / cut version of your remix on your own platforms.

Upload your final mix in WAV format (preferred):

• No limiter on the master — let the dynamics breathe
• Please leave -6 dB headroom to allow proper mastering.
