Black Sun Empire

Formed in 1997 in Utrecht, Black Sun Empire have shaped the modern sound of neurofunk. With several active labels — notably Blackout Music NL — the trio has built a dark, cinematic and technically precise aesthetic, pushing DnB into its heaviest territories.

​Their releases, live shows and label nights have influenced an entire generation of producers.

From Manchester, Virus Syndicate bring the vocal and narrative dimension: grime, rap, bass, dubstep and hybrid electronica. Their trademark style mixes incisive lyricism with heavy low-end production.

​Within Shadow League, they inject personality, hooks, and vocal aggression into the drum & bass framework, creating a distinctive crossover.

Shadow League began after early collaborations between Black Sun Empire and Virus Syndicate (notably “Caterpillar”in 2016). The chemistry was obvious, and over time it evolved into a full, long-term project.

Their 2025 album “Cheat Code” blends neurofunk precision, halftime grooves, relentless bass pressure and a strong vocal identity. Shadow League isn’t a side-project: it’s a fully developed musical alliance pushing DnB into new hybrid territory.

Founded by Black Sun Empire in the early 2000s, Blackout Music NL has become one of the most influential labels in the global drum & bass ecosystem.

Dedicated to the darker, more technical side of the genre, Blackout has cultivated a sound defined by surgical precision, cinematic tension and relentless bass engineering. The label is home to groundbreaking artists such as Pythius, State of Mind, Misanthrop, The Upbeats, and Redpill, and has been responsible for pushing neurofunk into international recognition through both its releases and its worldwide Blackout club nights.
