Though commercially unsuccessful, the TR-808 has had a lasting influence on pop music and was eventually used on more hit records than any other drum machine! So to celebrate 8-08 day, we're challenging you to make a beat or track prominently featuring the 808’s signature sound.

Luckily one doesn't need an 808 unit to create this iconic sound. Native Instruments has created a MASSIVE X Expansion filled with 808 sounds called BOUNCE and we picked some of the finnest patches for you to make a track with.

To install the patches: 

1. Download the Preset package via the 'Download Pack' button on this page. 
2. Then in MASSIVE X click “show user preset folder” in the main dropdown menu accessed via the triangle next to the MASSIVE X logo in the top left of the instrument, drag the presets into the window. 
3. Click “rescan presets” in the same dropdown. 
4. Then load the patches by clicking the sound browser at the top of MASSIVE X and selecting 'user' from the left menu.

To qualify, you must:

• Create a track at least 2 minutes in length prominently featuring the characteristic sound of the TR-808
• Not use any material to which you do not own the copyright
• Use at least 2 of the presets provided
• Be prepared to show project files to prove original sounds and the provided presets were used.
• One entry per person. You can upload improved versions by pressing the gear icon next to your tracks title
• The Metapop team will listen to all entries and pick the winners based on creativity and technical skill
